HIYA PEOPLE. (i sound like im in a mood to post something huh?)

i almost forgot that i still have this blog! anyway, what have i been doing lately, lets see. been sleeping a lot, and doing work O: (seems like im picking up quite a bit from esther!). i actually burnt the whole day today sleeping and listening to chinese oldies (see? im not 284% classical music. i listen to oldies okay!). will post some vids below! must do some physics today.

im actually quite happy because yesterday i rekindled my love for staedtler triplus fineliner pens (woohoo german!). i used to love this pen a long long time ago, and i even bought a set of colours for mindmaps! then for some reason i switched to other pens. BUT IM BACK!:D i shall head to the stationary store soon to get more blue and black colours for the pen cos im intending to use it for school. hehe!

anyway, for my A levels program next year, i will be playing chopin sonata no3/3 and bartok piano sonata. and a song which i haven't decided on (i use song here in a very strict context, A SONG HAS WORDS. mendelssohn's song without words is a genre of its own). im almost done with the chopin sonata no3/3, about a page left. a page of right hand, i learnt the left hand today. i shall take my time with it. working now on grande valse brilliante (and correcting all my fingerings). i feel like im trying to put off the bartok piano sonata. its quite a daunting idea, bartok piano sonata is FTCL. speaking of diplomas...

...for my ATCL (i just got into a quibble with my mum over this diploma issue last night), i have decided on doing beethoven's pathetique sonata, chopin's fantasie impromptu\grande valse brilliante (i'll learn both, then choose one), ravel's pavane. i know what you're thinking--HOHO ALL THE CLICHES. sorry i like (facebook style).

long while since i posted. promos start on friday, beginning with econs and GP. im screwed. after friday, im going to start music music music. cos i already screwed up my practical. compo started, wrote a little called "toilet paper comes in rolls". it's dada. decided to do the conventional piano-violin-voice.

heres some good music by wagner. liebestod translates to love death, its the last dramatic aria which marks the end of tristan und isolde. tristan is an epic music drama which goes on for 4 hours (excluding ice-cream breaks?) WITHOUT a single "tonal" resolution, until the one you hear at the end of this liebestod. which is why its so highly chromatic.

hail wagner the genius.

p.s. wagner is pronounced varg-ner. hes german.

i need to start working on my end year compo

3-5mins for 3-5 instruments.

thinking of variations or ABA. maybe variations like A A' (cadenza) A'' (cadenza)... a little like liszt's liebestraum no3, with a touch of haydn's emperor quartet (every instrument plays melody for a variation), HMMM...variations on a nursery rhyme?:D haven't chosen one yet though. only thing is, it has to be RADICAL, and thats where all the trouble starts=/

instruments at my disposal atm--violin, double bass, guzheng and a couple of voices. thinking of having violin-viola-cello-doublebass-guzheng. if i max the 5 mins, and i use the above form, i'll have less than a minute per variation+cadenza >.< hmmm...

okay im blogging now when im supposed to be doing anna butterworth (ie, exercises in harmony so i can write bach chorales).

yesterday i was out doing CIP for jie, selling t-shirts for $10 each. please imagine how difficult it was, but i managed to sell ...SOME. well i sold my share, but got people pangseh so we had to "share" the extras (i'd rather not HAHA).

for some strange reason, the idea the promos are coming isnt setting in and im still quite relaxed about things. add on to that pon-ing lectures to eat breakfast brunch lunch tea blah blah blah... i can THINK how screwed i am but i cant FEEL it. life is good. but if im forced to drop subjects, i'll drop math to H1.

i was listening to haydn symphony no104 while i was showering and for some quaint reason, it felt quite shiok. especially since i can still remember some //63s, circle of 5ths blah blah blah.

holidays have started and i havent gotten down to much work. the plan was to slack away the first week, math the second week (its over and iv only done HALF of what i should have done), physics third week (lets hope this goes smoothly) and music for last week:D iv decided to chiong indian & bartok for music. analysis can just die, i missed so many lessons. i borrowed a book on bartok's life and one on messiaen (BIRD MAN WOOTZXZXZX). been interested in playing some messiaen (cos it sounds so ms tsien HAHA LAME). but latest pieces im working on

been a month or so since i updated.

iv been busy with music, especially the bach prelude and fugue (WHICH IM STILL NOT DONE WITH). playing debussy petite suite with joyce for mid years, and poulenc flute sonata movement 1 with sharon (maybe). other pieces in mind include a mendelssohn song without words, ie lieder ohne worte and a tango (which im less enthusiastic about). i think i will exceed the time limit, so maybe can have some choices on what i want to play.

fail-crashed mg with sharon, michelle, rachel chua and shirley kwok some time back. haven't met them in ages. dinner-ed with sharon and michelle at kap. mrs chan was rushing off to sarah chang and ms tsien was less-than-enthusiastic about talking with us. overall it was quite FAIL, but hmmm, well worth it.

been thinking about my a levels repertoire too. atm, i think a good idea will be to play 2 major works (like 10 mins-ish) and then accompany/duet for the remaining time. considering berg piano sonata op1 or bartok first piano sonata for the first piece; and maybe chopin scherzo no2, liszt transcription of beethoven symphony no5 movment 1, or a complete beethoven sonata for my other piece. maybe something cliche like moonlight or pathetique. OR WALDSTEIN:D

lunchtime recital coming friday, playing chopin nocturne in c# minor and bach prelude and fugue.

also been having many concerts these 2 weeks. there was madrigal opera last friday, 21C piano duets yesterday and stravinsky/ives on saturday. and tango on sunday, and i dont think im going. cos no dancing:p

recently found myself tuition for physics math econs gp, so dont ask me out on weekend afternoons. im no-life-ing at tuition D; bout time to find chinese too. i cant believe some people have like PEE-DOUBLE-YEW tuition. i mean cmon, how do you tuition pw. but if theres pw tuition, ...aiya also no time HAHA.

been busy lately with bach's prelude and fugue in f minor from WTC2. im beginning to find more and more that MOST bach preludes are better off without their fugues (and vice-versa). i might try his chromatic fantasy (rachel's suggestion). rachel is a big fan of bach the musician D; but ahh, i need to learn a 20/21C asap. for midyears which is like 31may-3june (EH NEVER TOUCH MY BIRTHDAY:D)

im starting to regret taking physics, cos physics really sucks. my first test got 3/10. but its too late to change subjects, so im just gonna THINK CAREFULLY and drop either math or physics to H1 if really cannot take it. plus my timetable is super screwed, im the only one taking PMME in njc (J1s AND J2s) but somehow they can find so many lessons for me.

march hols will be busy, because come march, i have lunchtime recitals. i dont think anybody non-music knows about this yet *sign of cross* AND i think lunchtime recitals are on wednesdays, my squash matches are on wednesdays so...HEHE. but actually quite looking forward lah, even though im such a bad pianist. TSK.

back to doing homework SELECTIVELY, some things are more urgent than others, some things can find better excuses than others.

yesterday first period, ZAO CHAN. second period econs already kena rep. today first period gp ALMOST kena rep. but i complain i already rep then teacher say assistant rep. ended up gp rep is SHIRLEY KWOK.

today had an organ concert, everything bach. i got myself a -.- from half the music class yesterday with the 'my bach is worse than my bite' HAHA. today in math we split ourselves into 2 groups, bach and bartok. my physics class sucks though, i wish i took history instead. everybody is in the same class, only me extra D; some more i was late for first physics lesson, my name got cancelled off the register. back to the concert, we came to realise that bach really just uses the same stuff over and over, its just that the order is mixed and the key is changed.

...and i came to realise that some bach preludes are better without their fugues and vice-versa. anyways, i took a lift back from rachel chua! YAY:D im not gonna do homework tonight, and my excuse is ORGAN CONCERT.

friday after celebrations i went back to mgs to find mrs chan and ms tsien. HAHA last minute call joyce and went together. and sabo-ed rachel chua=p surprisingly they were quite happy to see me leh! mrs chan *AGAIN* reminded me that i have to find a piano teacher (and i have, of course. for 3 lessons already!:D) and ms tsien was more i-have-a-class-now-ish. mrs chan let us crash her sad class of a whooping 2 students rofl. but YAY, very happy to be back at mgs again HEHE. AND, we had lunch together.

jie says i can hang with her for acjc funfair, so HMMM should i get tickets from elena or from mak=p WE'LL SEE.

went out with jie today, was rather impromptu. cos i was out with my mum to find physics tuition then jie called and asked if wheres my ex-physics tutor (for her sister) so 4 of us went to find tuition HAWHAW.

been working on bach prelude and fugue in f minor (from wtc) for past few days. might prepare to take gr8 exams with beethoven sonata and liszt consolation. the bach prelude actually contains lots of strange harmonies (at least its strange to me). if you play it slowly, you can hear glaring tritones.

you know, bela bartok really sucks at naming his pieces.

eg1. music for strings, percussion and celesta (1936)
...is celesta not percussion?

eg2. concerto for orchestra (1942-1943, 1945)
a concerto is a musical work which pits (usually) a soloist against an orchestra, to show off the abilities of the virtuoso. so now the orchestra is fighting with itself? what an oxymoron, what a contradict.

eg3. concerto for 2 pianos, percussion and orchestra (1943)
so percussions no longer part of an orchestra?

eg4. sonata for 2 pianos and percussion
this is like saying 'alvin and the chipmunks'. is alvin not a chipmunk? is the piano not a percussion?

eg5. 4 songs in the mikrokosmos
a song has words, mikrokosmos is for piano.

...and its not as if he had such a vast output, he didnt have time to think through the title of each composition-.-

today JAE submissions closed. i think i should be a little disappointed with my results, it was a little worse than expected. and it puts me in such an unpleasant position of taking calculated risks. as usual, sji screwed up on me, i had to go down to MOE to get the CCA grade changed. i had to go down TWICE, once to find out theres nothing they can do about it, once AGAIN to submit my application. wtbing.

i shall not reveal my choices of my exact results HAWHAW(: but i think i'll update when the posting is out. i *think*. till then, ima enjoy my last bits of hols.

today i just wanna post that yesterday ministry released news that results will be released 2pm on 11 jan. fml. they prolly start talking at 2pm, by the time results release also 2am liao>.<

went out with jie and bunch yesterday, alvin&chipmunks (isnt alvin a chipmunk?) at suntec then went over to mak's place to fly kite. we were supposed to go ecp to fly LOL. then tan yujie happily went to ecp without calling us, then we had to sponsor his cab fare to mak's place >.< wii-ed at her place until evening then dinner together. jie's grandfather leg spoil O:!

today supposed to go out with jie and bunch AGAIN, but postphone to saturday HAWHAW.

the day before i went chalet (only go the bbq lah) with btps bunch. so many of them i cant remember, so many of them can remember me O: must have been gossiping about me D; apparently alot of them thought i GEP siol! i got look so kiang meh;p o results come out then see whether got so kiang lor>.< anyways somehow the btps bunch alot of smokers, alot of drinkers D; okay lah, they happy can already, dont smoke near me, i got weak lungs O:

iv been trying for 2 days now to upload my first draft of my chopin nocturne, it isnt working. i injured my right pinky in kl so the chopin nocturne wont be ready anytime soon. but i hope to get it up before x'mas for jie<3

HELLO CRUEL WORLD.

yupp im updating at last, maddie is in singapore at last, we've played squash together THRICE in TWO DAYS. shes an addict D; jie left for europe last night, didnt reply my sms): nevermind, i promised her the chopin nocturne in c# minor, op posthum. i have to get it right QUICKLY. all thats left is the rendition of the running notes and re-finding the lost timbre D; i injured my right middle finger at work=/ anyways, made some cash by working for 2 days=D now i have money to spend for x'mas, at KL and all:D

today starbucks was giving away free coffee, so maddie, elena and i went to queue for coffee HAHA. cheap thrill, but one of the few times iv done it so it was quite a refreshing experience:p

fang laoshi is having a chalet 14-17th, 6B people have to choose a day fast fast. not many turning
up, hy in egypt and jie in europe. i refuse to talk to LJR, he is STRANGE. actually looking forward to it cos i'll get to meet xinyi, haven't seen her in AGES even though shes njc and i everyday pass by.

yiann is organising a 6A 6B gathering HAWHAW, im a slacker in the organising committee:D

freida is organising a BBPS gathering in jan, im going there to see who remembers me and i remember who. i KINDA got kicked out for some bad stuff, lets see how long my legacy lives HAHA. to think tee went on to be head prefect, irony.

im back from aus. i know i should blog about it, but it was quite a disappointment=p so lets not bother ourselves with it. p.s. didgeridoos make a nice drone.

im learning up the last bits of the notes of chopin nocturne in c# minor. interpretation is a little problematic because im still quite reliant on the score. hopefully this means my sightreading is getting better:p

i'll be trying to organise a mahjong party with my primary school bunch or something over this week, since people are starting to fly off.

today was the last day of o's. as i close this chapter of my life (secondary school education), im going to start blogging again. hopefully it will last.

before i go on,

this is for all my classmates of mgs o level music class 09, especially the back row (su, shee, sharon, mich, rachel). of course, that does not mean i dont remember the others. thank you for all the memories and good times.

next up, im finally out of sji. lets just say it has been a bitter>sweet 4 years, and im glad im out at last. GF sji, i survived.
